PROFESSOR LAURENCE WALSH

Professor Laurence Walsh is known internationally for his contributions to the development of MI dentistry protocols, a topic on which he has published extensively. He has developed clinical protocols for testing saliva and plaque, and for using various types of remineralizing agents to reverse white spot lesions. Laurie has also conducted trials of many different bleaching systems and has played a leading role in education on the safe and optimal use of these in clinical practice. He developed protocols for altering tooth shade by lightening, and advanced oxidation processes for tackling challenging types of tooth discolouration.

PROFESSOR IAN MEYERS OAM

Professor Ian Meyers OAM is a general dental practitioner and honorary professor at The University of Queensland School of Dentistry. Over the last thirty five years he has been involved in dental research, clinical dentistry, private practice, university and hospital based dental clinics. He is fellow of the International College of Dentists, Academy of Dentistry International, the Pierre Fauchard Academy, and the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons. Among his previous positions are the inaugural Colgate Chair of Dental General Practice Dentistry, Chief Dental Officer for Queensland Health, and President of the Queensland Branch of the Australian Dental Association. In January 2017 he commenced in the role of Chief Executive Officer of the Australian Dental Association (Queensland). Throughout his career as an academic, and as a clinical general dental practitioner, Ian Meyers has developed extensive experience in comprehensive patient care, diagnosis and management of worn and broken down dentition, geriatric and aged care dentistry, adhesive restorative dentistry and dental materials, and the management of patients through minimum intervention dentistry.

DR BRAD WRIGHT

Dr Brad Wright is a foundation fellow of the Faculty of Dentistry of Australian College of Legal Medicine and has presented on law and management for dentists across Australia, and overseas on a regular basis for over 10 years and for many years at ADANSW as part of their CPD programme. After graduating from the University of Queensland as a dentist in 1982, he commenced practice and thereafter operated a regional single practitioner practice from 1987 that grew to 4 dentists and three hygienist/therapists when he sold the practice in 2007. Dr Wright graduated from law school in 1998 and his honours thesis was entitled “Material Risk and Causation in Dental Treatment”. He was admitted as a solicitor in 2006, completed an MBA in 2010 and was called to the bar in March 2011. He is currently at the Queensland private bar full time, and his practice includes health practitioner regulation, employment law, civil and commercial law and family law. He has trial and application experience in family, property and administrative law and trial and application experience in Supreme Court and Courts of Appeal of NSW and Queensland and is a Nationally Accredited Mediator. He also has significant management and consultancy experience with corporate and practitioner clients in relation to clinical operations, practice management and legal risk management.

Brisbane

Travel Info

The Brisbane International airport has direct flights to and from more than 30 international and 45 domestic destinations. Delegates, other than those who are Australian or New Zealand citizens, travelling to Brisbane for this event require a visa to enter Australia and can find further information on? the Department of Immigration Website www.immi.gov.au. All delegates are encouraged to arrange their travel and other insurances.

The Brisbane CBD is approximately 12km from and around 20 minutes from the domestic and international airport, however longer travel times are experienced on weekdays during the morning and afternoon rush hours. A multitude of transport options are available. The Airtrain provides a direct link to the CBD and departs every 15 minutes during peak hour. Taxi ranks are well supplied at most hours of the day at both the domestic and international airport. Various Ground Transport Operators and Bus Companies also provide access to the CBD and other locations including the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast regions. Alternatively, a large variety of car rental companies service the airport.

Climate

Brisbane has a subtropical climate with mild winter and warm or hot weather for the rest of the year. Maximum temperatures range around 17oC in winter and exceeding 30oC for most of the summer months.

Currency & GST

The currency across all states of Australia is the Australian Dollar. Goods and services in Australia are subject to a Goods and Services Tax (GST) of 10%. All event registration fees are payable in Australian Dollars and include a GST component.

DENTAL TEAM UPDATE 2018 offers all dental team members essential updates across various dental fields and a diversity of topics including Dental Materials, Dental Legal Issues, Minimal Intervention Dentistry and the Management of Discoloured Teeth, will be presented. Professors Laurence Walsh and Ian  Meyers and Dr Brad Wrightcombine to present this important update. Registration for Dental Team Update 2018 is open to dentists, dental auxiliaries, dental assistants and practice managers. Participants may use this event towards meeting the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) requirements as set by the Dental Board of Australia and the event has also received CPD verification from the New Zealand Dental Association (NZDA). The event offers participants up to seven hours scientific continuing professional development. The event will be held at the Stamford Plaza Hotel in the Brisbane CBD. As with all Queensland Dental Group conferences, events and courses, no product or external company sponsorship is permitted to allow all presenters to provide their unbiased views and preferences.
